Kim Demuth
I was born in the UK, but continually moved around the world as a child before my family eventually settled in Australia when I was a teenager. In 1999 I graduated from Queensland University of Technology (Australia) with a BA (Honours) in Visual Arts (First Class). Since then I have exhibited extensively throughout Australia and the world. My works belong to numerous institutional and private collections both nationally and internationally.
The effects of living with a dissociative disorder,
causes me to experience this physical world in which we live, to seem as ‘real’ as the one seen upon television or at the cinema, a painting, or a photograph. I chose the photograph as a means of recording the ‘fiction’ in which I live, and the potential to move beyond it. For me, physically manipulating the photographic image perceptually and aesthetically, provides a certain autonomy not bound by the expectations held within this particular medium.
